Chanel Keane

Counsellor & Social Worker

Counsellor/Accredited Mental Health Social Worker/ATAPS counsellor

A little information about my practice and counselling experience. My approach is to listen to client's experiences and needs in an open and non-judgemental way. I believe that there is therapeutic benefit alone in a person's experiences being heard, and with being engaged in a human relationship that is respectful, safe, honest, and focused on an individual's needs and the resolution of their struggles and distress.

In the nineteen years that I has worked as a counsellor and social worker, I have developed experience and skills in working with people whose lives have been affected by childhood and adult trauma, mental illness, drug and alcohol dependence, sexual abuse, and family violence. It is my hope hope that through therapy a client develops greater self-awareness of their emotions, thoughts, their strengths and supports, and in so doing feels an improvement in their overall well-being and connection with others.

I have a particular interest in counselling people who have suffered childhood or adult trauma, and I am deeply aware of how such experiences can have a profound impact on a person’s well-being, sense of self and safety in the world. I believe that people’s feelings and struggles are not signs of weakness or ill health, but are normal responses in trying to cope with challenging life experiences. I like to encourage the use of diverse mediums such as creative writing or journal writing and other creative forms of expression to explore and communicate one’s experiences.
